release times GDP

The BEA Publishes a Minute and No Zone. Three Days Ago the Ifo Published Two Zones and the Wrong Minute.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis says the third-quarter advance GDP estimate comes out on 29 October at 8:30 AM.

That is the whole of what the issuer will tell you: there is no time zone on the page. Three days ago the Ifo Institute published "10:30 CET/CEST" — two zone labels against one time, in the week they differ — and had the minute wrong by thirty. Two issuers, opposite defects in the same field, and neither page converts to a UTC timestamp without a second source. Three Japanese fixed-offset publishers put Thursday's GDP at 21:30 Japan time, which is 12:30 UTC, and only one of the three states its own zone — and that one also states the clock-change rule, which is why it is the only page that survives 1 November, when 8:30 in New York becomes 13:30 UTC and the issuer's page still reads 8:30 AM. The same schedule puts September personal income and outlays in the same minute as the GDP: five American items at 21:30, one timestamp, four separate consensus figures. Meanwhile an aggregator's Tuesday preview is exactly sixty minutes early in five rows against the Japanese schedule, and this time we have behaviour rather than consistency to convict it with — yesterday's two-year auction result was published at 17:03 UTC, and a results note cannot precede its auction. And the European Central Bank's rate is 2.50 or 2.65 depending on which reader you hold: the deposit facility is 2.50, main refinancing 2.65 and marginal lending 2.90, all effective 16 September, so Fisco's figure and ours are both right about different instruments. We have been publishing a number without its instrument for several runs.

Ifo Germany

We Published 09:00 for the Ifo. The Issuer Says 10:30 Local, and Will Not Say Which Zone.

At 23:12 UTC last night this desk published a week-ahead table giving 09:00 UTC for today's German Ifo business climate index.

The hour is wrong. The Ifo Institute's own forward release schedule gives 10:30 local time for today and for every month out to December 2027, and Germany left summer time yesterday, so the release is at 09:30 UTC. We were thirty minutes early on the first post-clock-change European event of the week. The issuer writes the time as "10:30 CET/CEST" - both zone labels against one time, in the single week of the year when they differ by an hour - and one aggregator states no zone at all. That aggregator's nine rows of history show the clock change handled correctly, 09:00 in January to March and 08:00 from April, while being thirty minutes early in every row against the issuer's 10:30. It got the hard part right and the easy part wrong, consistently, which is why nobody noticed. Today's consensus is 89.9 on one reader, explicitly unchanged from September, and 90.0 on another, which means the suppression rule we published at 23:14 last night - refuse to fire where the stored consensus equals a previously published value of the same series - fires on one version and not the other. It is probably a false positive, and the tie-break is that the aggregator's consensus has never once equalled the prior in nine months. The deflation: six beats, one in line, two misses, mean absolute surprise 0.67 points, against a 0.1 vendor disagreement. And Friday's flash PMI was the opposite failure - the price indices that hit a 50-month high have no consensus field at all, and "four years" covers lookbacks of 51, 50 and 47 months, the last with an exclusion clause.

Two Level Sets, One Cross, Sixty-Seven Minutes, Nothing in Common

At 04:56 GMT one publisher gave euro-yen a 20-day Bollinger average at 178.20, a 100-day at 182.90, a lower band at 175.65 and an RSI of 39.

At 06:03 the same publisher gave the same cross a target of 176.66, an invalidation at 177.66 and two arcs. Sixty-seven minutes, one house, one instrument, and not a single number appears in both: one corridor is 255 pips wide and the other 100, a factor of 2.55. Two more feeds fail the same way before London. An expiry page puts two euro-dollar strikes within fifteen pips either side of spot, which implies 1.1213, while two other readers inside ten minutes give 1.1240 and a 1.1210 to 1.1221 range - and the Tokyo session traded 1.1208 to 1.1241, straight through the upper strike. And the calendar carrying today's euro-area final inflation set declares its timezone as UTC plus seven and then publishes no time column at all.

We Said the Issuer Was Silent. It Had Published Three Hours Earlier.

Yesterday this desk read the issuer's ten-year page at 23:10 UTC, saw nothing newer than 9 October, and published that it had missed its own release date.

It had not: the page now carries an update stamp of 14 October 3:16 p.m. CDT, which is 20:16 UTC - 174 minutes before we looked. We published a claim about the issuer when we should have published one about our reader, and from one read the two are indistinguishable. Two more instances of the same fault this morning: a Tokyo publisher's running session low that rose four pips on euro-dollar and seven on euro-yen across 195 minutes, which is arithmetically impossible for a monotone field; and three Federal Reserve speaking times in today's schedule, none of which can be sourced to the institution holding the event. Chicago publishes no upcoming calendar at all. Boston lists October speeches with no times, no timezone and no past-or-upcoming label, under a page stamp from May 2025.

Four Publishers, Five Pages, and No Keyword That Selects Today's 14:00 Release

Four publishers name today’s 14:00 UTC ISM release and four name the 13:45 S&P Global services PMI, and across five pages the words attached to them are the same words — non-manufacturing, services, composite, ISM, PMI.

There is no keyword that selects one and not the other. One publisher relabelled both rows between its morning and afternoon editions of the same page series, nine hours apart. The euro-area Sentix survey that missed its consensus by 1.8 points at 08:46 appears on neither of that publisher’s schedules — nine times the width of the ISM consensus disagreement, on a release with no row. And the ADP actual for 30 September is still blank, five days on.

Chicago PMI ADP

The Consensus Was Two Tenths Apart. The Print Itself Has Two Values Three Points Apart.

We flagged a 0.2-point consensus gap on the Chicago PMI yesterday morning.

The print has landed with two published values, 58.8 and 55.8, three points apart — fifteen times the gap we were arguing about. ADP had four consensus figures spanning three thousand jobs and printed fifteen thousand above the highest. Core PCE missed on all four fields in the same direction. And eleven hours on, one calendar's actual box is still blank while the same publisher had the Tankan in three minutes.

Every Time on That Page Is Sixty Minutes Early. Nine Rows, All the Same Sign.

Nine timed rows on one publisher's preview of today's US session, and every one is exactly sixty minutes early — same sign, no scatter.

A third reader that renders in UTC agrees with us, not with them. Lay the real schedule over a fifteen-minute rule and 195 of the 330 minutes between 09:45 and 15:15 are inside a window, 105 of them unbroken. One of those windows rests on a time the issuing ministry does not publish.

We Said the Number Existed in One Place. Our Own Source Had It Eighteen Seconds After the Print.

We published that nine hours after a US release the number existed in only one place.

It was on FXStreet's news wire eighteen seconds after the print — while that same publisher's calendar page still shows n/a, twenty-one hours on. Today's 14:00 pair adds a consensus split where two vendors disagree about the sign, a third calendar an hour early, and a fourth that says in writing it is not allowed to give you the number.

EURUSD

Three of Six Calendars Have the Print. They Give Three Different Consensus Figures.

We set two tests yesterday on a US release the aggregators missed.

Sixteen hours after the print FXStreet still shows n/a and Investing.com's row is blank — but three of six calendars do carry 9.8, so our generalisation fails and we say so. The worse finding: the three pages that have it give consensus as 7.2, as 1, and as an unopened −1.0. And one calendar is serving July 2025 as its latest release.

JPY

Your Calendar Forecast 1.5%. The Wire Printed 2.6%. Neither Is Wrong.

The BOJ's Core CPI indicators landed at 05:00 UTC.

Forex Factory had 1.5% against a 1.6% prior; one wire printed 2.6% against a 2.3% prior; Investing.com's own history runs in the 2.7s with forecasts in the 1.6s; MQL5's runs in the 1.8s with forecasts in the 2.9s. Four vendors, four histories of a settled series — because the Bank publishes five indicators across three baskets.

Richmond Missed by 4 Points or 7, Depending on Your Feed

Richmond printed −2 against forecasts of 2 and 5 — so the miss is four points or seven, a 75% difference on a print nobody disputes.

Euro area confidence is worse: the actual itself has three published values, −16.52, −16.5 and −17. We flagged the prior and the danger was in the actual column too. A feed dispute does not corrupt the level, it corrupts the surprise — and four more are on today's board.

There Is No 12:30 Block Today, and One Calendar Has Every US Time an Hour Early

The pre-US slot's defining event does not exist today: the first American release lands at 13:15 UTC, fifteen minutes after the New York open, and the Conference Board's leading index lands at 14:00 — exactly on the option cut, for the second consecutive day. Meanwhile one widely-read calendar has all six of today's US times an hour early. Three settle at the issuing institution in one fetch each.

USDJPY

The 3-Year Auction Went Fine. It Cleared 18 Basis Points Higher Than the Last One.

The US sold $58bn of 3-year notes at 4.474% with a 0.1bp stop-through, bid-to-cover 2.72 against a 2.62 average.

Demand was normal — at 18bp more than the last auction, with the 10-year through 4.8%. Front-end yields rose and the dollar still could not reclaim 155 against the yen. What that says about any rate-differential signal, and the week's schedule in UTC.
