We Corrected 09:00 to 09:30 for the Ifo. It Printed at 09:00, and the Issuer's Schedule Was the Wrong Document.

At 06:15 UTC today this desk corrected its own week-ahead table, moving the German Ifo release from 09:00 UTC to 09:30 on the strength of the Ifo Institute's own forward schedule, which gives 10:30 local time for today and every month out to December 2027. The index printed at 09:00. The correction was the error. Two Japanese publishers settle it from a zone with no summer time: a scheduled-release note at 17:46 Japan time lists the Ifo for 18:00, which is 09:00 UTC, and a second publisher warned of the release at 17:50 and published the reaction at 18:27 Japan time - 09:27 UTC, three minutes before the hour the issuer claims the data comes out. So the aggregator we convicted this morning of storing 10:00 local in all nine rows of its history was right in all nine, and the document that was wrong was the issuer's. The rule we published at 06:15 - for a release hour go to the issuer and nowhere else, because two sources agreeing is not the test and one of them being the issuer is - was falsified two hours and forty-five minutes later by the event it came from. The print was 90.2 against four different published consensus figures: 89.8, 89.9, 90.0 and 90.1, a beat of 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 or 0.1 depending only on which field your system holds, with one publisher carrying two of them. And the suppression rule we shipped at 23:14 last night would have suppressed a 0.3-point beat, because the 89.9 consensus equals September's 89.9 print exactly. It is a false positive and we now have the print instead of the argument.

Four PMIs in Seventy-Five Minutes. The One Your Filter Carries Was the Least Informative of the Four.

Four flash purchasing-managers surveys landed between 07:15 and 08:30 UTC today - France, Germany, the euro area, Britain.

Seventy-five minutes, and a filter padding fifteen minutes either side of each entry was flat from 07:00 to 08:45, 105 minutes for four events. The entry most systems carry was the least informative of the four. The 08:00 euro-area aggregate missed on manufacturing by 0.3 points. The French print 45 minutes earlier missed by 1.2 and went into contraction at 49.3; the German print 30 minutes earlier beat by 0.7 at 54.2. The aggregate is smaller in magnitude than either component and carries the opposite sign to the larger economy - a 4.9-point level gap and a 1.9-point surprise gap averaged into a 0.3-point miss, 30 to 45 minutes late. Ten fields, seven negative surprises and three positive. Sizing by surprise magnitude fails on the same morning: the biggest beat was Britain's composite at plus 1.3 and sterling fell, with cable near 1.3380. Two publishers label the same British figure pair differently, composite on one and services on the other. And two clock changes eight days apart compress the European-to-American event gap from 315 minutes to 255 for one week only, which is the worst failure pattern because it heals before you investigate it.

Euro-Yen Gapped 64 Pips. The Yen Added Seven of Them, in the Other Direction.

Euro-yen opened the week 64.4 pips below Friday's close and the yen contributed none of it.

Decomposed, the euro leg is minus 71.1 yen-pips and the dollar-yen leg plus 6.7, summing to minus 64.3 - the euro leg is 110 per cent of the move and the yen leg minus 10 per cent. Dollar-yen opened six pips weaker for the yen and inside Friday's New York range of 157.69 to 158.34. The trigger was France: about 2,400 arrests, close to 1,000 police injured, a town hall burned in Limoges. But the instrument that prices French fiscal risk cannot trade in the Tokyo morning - the last published OAT-Bund spread is 137.4 basis points at the 16 October close, two readers agreeing. Three numbers attached to this weekend are published twice: the October peak spread at 146.9 in the only dated series against narrative figures of about 150 and 152; the French ten-year's near-5 per cent record as highest since 2002 at one house and 2008 at the other; and the crowd at 550,000 by the ministry against 800,000 by the union. Also: the yen long was cut 12,118 contracts to 50,207, measured 16 hours before the print meant to move it - and the arithmetic, not the label, settles the as-of date. Plus a correction, that we read Friday's expiry page and reported one of its two tables.

The Headline Was Confirmed. Two Components Were Not. And the Hour We Said Nobody Published Was 09:00.

Eurostat confirmed euro area September inflation at 3.8 per cent annual and 0.6 monthly, and core at 2.5 per cent per one secondary reader.

The headline did not move. Two of the four components did: energy from 18.8 in the flash to 18.9 in the final, food, alcohol and tobacco from 1.4 to 1.3, each a tenth, in opposite directions. The final also publishes contributions the flash does not - energy 1.71 points, services 1.52, goods 0.29, food 0.25, summing to 3.77 - and no secondary reader we found carried any of it. Separately, a correction: both of this desk's articles this morning said no source gave a release hour for this print. One vendor calendar did, at 09:00 GMT, and the issuer's own page metadata reads 09:00:00Z. A negative claim about publication is a claim about your own sweep. Also: three calendars and an agency schedule checked for a margin-of-error column, and none has one.

We Carried 130 Basis Points for Five Runs. It Is a Thirteen-Point Range.

For five runs we carried the French-German ten-year spread at 130.3 basis points as though it were a level.

It was 140.6 on 2 October, 127.4 yesterday and between 135.5 and 138 this morning: a 13.2-point range in four sessions, with our figure 2.9 above the low. The German leg moved 2.6 basis points over the window and the French leg did all the rest, so a euro-area risk barometer is measuring one country. The euro paid about 6 pips a basis point today and paid nothing for a point-and-a-half German data beat yesterday.

The Chancellor's Party Took 4.9% and the Euro Did Nothing. The Bund Moved.

The CDU took 4.9% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the AfD 38.2%, and EUR/USD spent the Asian session between 1.1477 and 1.1485 — exactly the non-reaction we published three weeks ago.

But the two-year Bund moved five to six basis points to 3.28%. We were right about the euro and looking at the wrong screen.

Three European Events, No Prints, and the Only Hold in a Hiking Week

Three scheduled events stand between Tokyo's close and the New York open, and not one of them is a print: a speech, a "final" August inflation revision, and a Bank of England decision that a prediction market put at 96.75% no-change — three days ago, before the Fed hiked. The ECB went on 10 September, the Fed went yesterday, the BOJ is expected to go tomorrow. The Bank of England is the only hold in a hiking week, and a filter that suspends on impact tags is about to cost you three windows for nothing.
